Wet basements and crawlspaces can be annoying at times; other times, they can be a major liability. If you have a wet basement or crawl space, it is important that you do not ignore it. The consequences can be more costly and dangerous than you are prepared for.
Common issues as a result of water backup in your basement or crawl spaces:
- difficulty accessing your crawl space for inspection, maintenance and servicing of electrical/mechanical elements
- deterioration of sub-flooring, insulation, beams, floor joists and electrical/mechanical systems
- warping or foundation shifting which causes doors to be difficult to open or close
- deterioration & erosion of underlying soils, weakening your homes foundation and stability
- reduction in overall home value due to the damage and potential costs to fix
Prevention is better than the cure. Always.
As the saying goes, it’s always better to stop something bad from happening (the prevention), than it is to try and fix it once it actually has happened. It is the same with water damage in your home. It will always be easier and cheaper to prevent water from entering your home than it will be to rebuild and repair the affected parts of your home after it has already happened.
